Born in Tarlac, Philippines, Alex Nino today is widely recognized as one of the world’s greatest
Filipino artist. In his early years as an artist and influenced by the works of comics masters
Nestor Redondo, Francisco Coching, Alfredo Alcala, he was inspired and motivated to
improve his talent and skills. In 1966, Alex wrote and illustrated his very first Graphic
Novel, “Gruaga” - The Fifth Corner of the World and when he began his association with
Pablo S. Gomez, he was given an artistic freedom to develop and polish his own unique
styles and techniques.

Alex illustrated countless stories for Filipino comics publishers and when introduced by
fellow artist Tony DeZuniga to the US market and DC Comics, his works were quickly
recognized. Some of his illustrations for DC Comics were entitled Weird Heroes, House
Of Mysteries, Korak The Son of Tarzan, Captain Fear and Batman. He also illustrated some
of Marvel Comics’ Man-God, Conan and Hulk. Byron Priess Visual Publications, Warren
Publications and Heavy Metal were among other publishers he worked for.

Over the next few years, Alex pursued Animation and worked for Marvel Production, TMS, Fox TV Network, Hannah Barbara, SD Entertainment and Walt Disney. This was a big step for Alex and as a visual developer; some of his fine works were utilized for Walt Disney’s feature animation Mulan, Treasure Planet, Atlantis and Emperors New Grove. One of Alex’ great achievements is the prestigious Inkpot award during the 1976 San Diego Comic Con.

Recently completed projects were Alex Nino’s Art by Auad Publishing, God the Dyslexic Dog, Andie and the Alien by Bliss on Tap Publishing and Dead Ahead by Image. His current project is his very own graphic novel D’OS, The Co-Maker.
